Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Use Firefox Over Explorer

If you are someone who operates an online business, conducts research using the Internet, utilizes email, or simply reads about current affairs online and you do any of this using the Internet Explorer browser from Microsoft -- you are not only corrupting your computer, but you are missing out on several major features.

Here are 10 Reasons Why You Should Be Using the Firefox Browser over Explorer:

1. Faster Browsing
Have you ever felt compelled to knock your monitor off your desk, due in large part to the time it takes to load the Internet Explorer browser? Firefox has a powerful cache system that stores sites that you visit frequently, so that the next time you want to see that site again, it loads faster in Firefox.

2. Plugin Support
One of the best features, especially for Internet marketers, is the plugin support for Firefox. You can download an install plugins right from your browser and customize it to fit your needs. One of the best plugins for marketers is the SEO plugin for Firefox.

3. Security
This should be #1 overall, since security is a major concern online - but how good is security if you can't browse fast enough to even think about it. Firefox will warn a user when a risk is evident and will even stop you from visiting known hacker, spyware and virus sites -- so your computer stays healthier, longer.

4. Download Manager
Firefox allows you to control your download files in one pop up interface. You can pause a download, remove a download, come back and download the file at a later time. And you you notified of the size and location of the download when it is complete. Since Firefox is half the size of the massive Internet Explorer, download times are cut in half.

5. Page Info
No matter what page you are viewing in Firefox, you can always "right-click' anywhere and the Page Info box will open up, which provides the viewers general information, media that can be found on the page, permissions and page security (in a tabbed format).

6. Blocking Images
You've undoubtedly viewed a site in the past that was full of pictures, advertisements or images that really distracted you from obtaining the result you were looking for. In Firefox, you can disable all images by simply "right-clicking" on an image and select the option to block all images on that page.

7. Open Source
Firefox is an open-source project by Mozilla. This is an advantage because literally thousands of independent programmers can work on building Firefox and troubleshoot and repair any foreseen security issues the browser may experience, before they even happen.

8. Password Manager
Firefox has a password manager built into the browser so that you may easily store usernames, email addresses and passwords for your favorite sites. If you ever forget what your username or password is, Firefox allows you to easily access the information in their security tab. You can also delete one, or remove all passwords with one click of a button.

9. Restore Previous Session
Has your browser ever crashed at the wrong possible time and you had to go back and try to redo what just got undone? Firefox comes with the 'Restore Session' feature, so even if your browser abruptly shuts down, when you enable Firefox again, you will be given a choice to restore previous session, or start a new session.

10. It's Not Microsoft!
How many times over the years have you heard, or heard of Internet Explorer warning of 'security threats'? And how many times did you hear about Firefox on the evening news during the same period? Exactly.

Hands down, I recommend everyone who is currently using the Explorer browser to switch to Mozillas Firefox browser. It's safer, it's faster and comes with many more usable features that don't clutter our tool bars.

Getting free content for your new or old web site

Do you own a site or trying to build one? you probably already know that one of the most important things a web site should have is good content and plenty of it. Here is why and how. It is not just good business practice in order to lure users to visit the site again but it is also good to get the search engines attention.

Content is kind is a slogan that is repeated over and over again. The truth is the uses surfing the Internet are usually looking for something specific that is of interest to them. If you web site can supply them interesting stuff to read or watch then they will come back again and they will also let their friends know about your site bringing more traffic in.

Search engines also like content rich web site. Web sites with many pages that have unique, high quality and relevant content are the search engine favorites. Just having content is not enough in order to get to the first place in the search engines query results pages but it is a must if you want to get there. Search engine optimization can be done once you have that content and is most likely optimized for the content relevancy.

So how can you get content to your site. There are plenty of ways and they depends on your budget. You could of course create original content by either writing such yourself or paying professional writers to do it for you. If you have a big budget this might be the best way to go as it really provides the right quality and relevancy that you need. For most of us however spending a large sum of money on creating content is not an option. So how can you get high quality free web content is really the question.

We all know that there is nothing free in this world. Even free web content is not really free you just pay for it in something else than hard cash. One way to get free content is to use article sites that allow you to republish thousands or more of articles on your web site. The only catch is that if you want to publish those articles you must do so by copying the whole and the exact article and you must also include what is known as the resource box. The resources box usually describes the author in a few sentences and also includes a link to the author web site. So basically the trade is simple you get free web content and in return you provide a free link to the author web site.

When choosing what articles to publish on your web site make sure that you follow a few simple rules. First is quality. Read the articles do not just copy them in bulk and publisher them. Make sure that their quality and relevancy is what you are looking for. When copying an article also read the resource box and follow the link in it. Spend a short time looking at a few pages of the web site that you will be linking to. The reputation of that site and content will reflect on your site in two ways. First users that follow the link will give some of the credit or blame to you. Second search engines will project some credibility on you when the crawl through the link. If you are for example linking to a web site that was banned for bad practices from the search engines you are risking being penalized yourself too.

Understanding the Three Major Search Engines

Although a number of good search engine firms don’t like the way consumers have “voted” with their browsers, the fact is that there is a group of second-tier search engines hovering around the 5% market share level. These are Ask.com, About.com and a few specialized search sites. There really is no question about who the big boys on the block are, and it hasn’t changed much since the last millennium, either. It’s Google at number one, with over 60% share, then Yahoo with 20% and MSN right under 10%.

Voted four times as the “Most Outstanding Search Engine” by readers of the online outfit, Search Engine Watch, Google has a well-deserved reputation as the top choice for those searching the web. The crawler-based service provides both comprehensive coverage of the web along with great relevancy. It's highly recommended as a first stop in the hunt for whatever you are looking for.

Google wins big

Google provides the option to find more than just web pages, too. With just a click in the right place and your term(s) in the search field on Google’s home page, you can easily

* seek out images from across the web
* join discussions that are taking place on Usenet newsgroups
* locate news and information or perform product searches and
* do the ultimate in comparison shopping

Under the More pop-up menu are additional links providing access to “human-compiled” information, videos, books, scholarly aids, catalog searching and other fascinating and helpful services.

Google is famous for its many different features, like "cached links" allowing you to view "dead" pages, as well as previous versions of ones that have been altered. Dictionary definitions, phone numbers, stock quotes, street maps and many other kinds of information are easily accessed in Google. Refer to Google's help page for a complete explanation of these various features. Finally, the Google Toolbar and the various Google “web apps” have also become quite popular.

Yahoo in a slide

Yahoo is the web's oldest "directory" or "hierarchical search site," a place where real, human editors organize sites into categories. It was launched in 1994, but in October 2002 Yahoo made a “paradigm shift” to software-located listings for its main results rather than human editors. For several years, these automated results came from Google, until February 2004 when Yahoo began using its own searching and categorizing technologies. The "sense of community" that was a Yahoo priority from the start still distinguishes the site in many ways, and the site construction and organization attempt to make collaboration among people and companies easy, around the office or around the world.

Beyond the good-to-excellent search results, there are some Yahoo niceties that make searching enjoyable and simple. You can use the tabs above the search box on the Yahoo home page to look for images, Yellow Page listings or shopping comparisons. As opposed to the one-page Google home, Yahoo provides a separate "Search home page," where more numerous and more specialized search options are available to the motivated seeker.

What is MSN Search these days?

That question needs to be asked because MSN Search has changed its stripes a few times. It is now a crawler-based engine that only uses proprietary Microsoft technology in its search efforts. There are three important factors (probably many more, but these are the main ones) that MSN uses to put together its search index and individual results:

The automatic stuff: MSN Search's "spider" is named MSNBot, and it crawls the Web one individual link at a time to find pages that it will then add to the MSN index;

The human factor: After the automated actions have been taken, editors can still poke their noses into the process to "tweak" and refine the categories and links; and

The index generator: This clever technology sorts pages into subjects, directories, rankings and so forth. The best metaphor may be a post office, with every letter going into a certain slot according to zip code, street and number, mail type, etc.

Although it is in third place with under 10% of the current market share, MSN Search does have its devotees, as well as an army of detractors. For some people, Microsoft makes "good enough" software that is buggy and slow, and there have been complaints about MSN Search being sluggish and unresponsive. As usual, it comes down to personal tastes and needs.

Best of the best?

It seems that Google has been able to stay ahead of the race with nearly 63 percent share of the United States market in 2008, an 8 percent increase over the previous year according to ComScore. Yahoo, on the other hand, has been one of the biggest losers, with its share now just 20 percent, half of its peak during the last decade. MSN trails behind both with only 8.5% of market share, giving it even less reach and influence than Yahoo.

Although these search engines are all eminently usable, and satisfactorily direct you to the domains you’re looking for, it seems that Google outshines its competitors with a certain brilliance. With the introduction of its web apps – a browser, a Microsoft Office-compatible suite, an art program (Sketch) and other unique offerings – Google is in a commanding position, and appears perfectly prepared to keep its luster over the coming years.

Why You Should Not Use Adblockers

What we know about ads: they are annoying and are everywhere, only few websites are not showing ads. From ads point of view, the websites are divided in 2 categories: websites showing ads near content, and websites showing content near ads. From both categories we will get content and ads.
What happens if a website owner from the first category earns a lot of money by displaying ads? He can quit his day job and can focus on writing good content - motivated by the fact that more content means more money.

What happens if a website owner from the second category earns a lot of money by displaying ads? He will understand that good content will generate good money, and he will try to add more good content.

What happens with a webmaster who owns a website from the second category if he will not get any money from ads, even if his website provides good content? He will stop writing and he will find something else to work for money.

What happens with a webmaster who owns a website from the first category if he will not get any money from ads? He will lose his interest to post good content and he will end posting once per month, or he will forget about his blog.

Now, the connection with adblocker. What will happen if 80% of internet users will use adblocker software to block ads on any website? Bloggers will lose interest in posting good content, experts will find posting their thoughts and experiments useless, and they will prefer to concentrate everything in paid books. Some webmasters are already considering the option to prevent displaying the website for users with software that block ads. Currently I don’t see this as an option, but if 80% of internet users will use an adblocker, I will do this too.

Are ads really annoying you? You can’t read the content from a website with ads on it? You don’t need to read ads, but you should know that there are ads. In the same way the television works: when commercials appear, you switch the program until they finish.

But, how a new website or product can be promoted if not on commercials or ads? It is not a bad thing if you don’t read ads, but you can at least let your browser to display.

The percent of adblock users is rising quickly; I will come back with explanations about techniques used by webmaster to block adblocker users.

Blog Vs. Website … Which is Better For Promoting Products?

By: Don Meyer

Which is the best way of advertising and promoting products on the web? Should I build a blog or should I build a website. Here’s the big question I hear over and over. So let’s first define what a blog is and what a website is.

A blog or a weblog is a type of website. Blogging is the dynamic choice for someone who has something to sell, say or portray. Once you start a blog it is best to try to update it every day. That way you can build a readership and potential customers since that should be your objective. You want to keep to the subject matter as much as possible. Put a link to anything you find that is pertinent to your content. The entries can be commentary or news about events that interest the visitors to the blog. The readers ability to leave comments to the posts make it an interactive dialogue for all.

A website is the same as a blog, except it is static, it is not dynamic like a blog. This is where you actually describe your products and/or services. You can update a website as often as you like, but this is usually only done if you change your products. You should have a link to your Blog on this site to allow customers to get updates as often as you post them. People can’t just type in comments for everyone to see. Also with a website there are no posts to update. With the new blog software out now, it can be very difficult to tell whether it is a blog or a website.

Advantages of a blog:

1. A huge advantage of a blog is that blogs allows you to post written text, audio and video and have it online within minutes, unlike traditional static websites which can take hours to update and cost a lot if you’re not familiar with building or editing web sites.

2. To me, the biggest advantages of having a blog is you get the site up quick, write your first post and you are ready to do business online.

3. Optimizing your site for the search engines is far easier with a blog. Ever time you write a new post (new content) on to your blog, you do something called “pinging” the update service. You are notifying the search engines that you have new content on your site. The search engines will visit your site and index your site more often than a static website. Blogs will also show up many times more often in organic searches than a regular website.

4. It is much cheaper to set up a blog and maintain the site than it is for a static website.

5. Bloggers build credibility far faster than someone running a static website. The blogger is always posting and adding new content. The blogger is actually building a relationship with the readers, and the readers have the ability to comment back.

6. When you want to make a post on your blog, you enter your back office type your post and it is sent out instantly. With a static website, you have to open up your editor, write the article, update the page properties before uploading that page to your site using FTP software. Once you’ve done all of that, you have to wait until the search engines to visit your site to get it indexed again.

There are many more reasons that I could still add to the argument for a blog site, but I hope I’ve given you enough reasons here, that you can make an informed decision on blog vs. website. The best way would be to have a blog where you can post and a website that has your products; where you can link the to sites off each other to increase sales.

How to Make Free or Cheap International Calls Using VoIP

By: Costas Kariolis

Most of us have some friends and family living, studying or travelling in different parts of the world. In the past, expensive international call charges meant that people often went for weeks or months without actually hearing their loved ones’ voices. These days, though, all that has changed. Thanks to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, it’s now possible to call anyone, anywhere, at any time, for as long as you want – and it’s cheap, if not free.

Airmail letters, telegrams, long-distance echoes … it’s time to relegate all these to history. These days, thanks to email, it’s easy to communicate with people all over the world. Email and messaging services allow you to read, almost instantly, what someone has written to you. And now VoIP technology means you can make international phone calls using broadband, too.

These calls can be free, as long as you’re prepared to accept some limitations. For more flexibility, you can sign up with a VoIP provider that offer low-cost monthly call plans.

Free international calls

Typically ‘PC to PC’ enables you to make free international calls. To enjoy free international calls, you, and the person you’re calling, both need the following.

1.a computer or laptop

2.a broadband connection

3.a headset/ microphone/ speaker (these may be integral to your computer)

4.an account with a VoIP provider that allows this type of calls, such as Skype or MSN.

This system suits many people. But it does have its drawbacks:

• you are tied to your computer, as is the person you’re calling;

• you need to make sure that you’ve both signed up to compatible providers that will allow you to talk to each other (usually, this has to be the same provider, though is starting to change);

• it is totally independent of your traditional landline service, so you can’t just pick up the phone and dial any number you need/want to, it has to be PC-to-PC;

• you can use this to make a calls to other landlines or mobiles, but if you do, you will be charged for the calls by the minute;

• you often find it’s best to agree in advance a time to call the other person, by email, so with a PC-to-PC so that you ensure you catch each other at each others PC;

• the call quality isn’t as good as that of a regular landline or mobile phone.

Many people are happy to put up with these limitations, because the calls are free. So if this set-up suits you, then that’s great.

Cheap international calls

You may, though, decide that you want the flexibility of making calls using a traditional home telephone instead of through your PC with headsets. If so, you could consider signing up with a VoIP provider that allows this.

With this method, you sign up to a paid call plan with a VoIP provider. The VoIP provider will send you an adaptor that allows you to plug the base of your normal handset into your computer or router. This uses VoIP technology to make ‘phone-to-phone’ calls. The only difference is that the calls go through your existing broadband connection – and not through a landline.

It means that you can simply pick up the phone and dial a number, as before. The person you’re calling doesn’t need to have a computer, or broadband. The call quality is so good that the person you’re calling won’t know you’re using VoIP.

How much you pay depends on the call plan you choose. You can choose one that includes just a few European countries, for example, or the US and Canada, or one that covers many more countries around the world. Whatever you go for, the monthly cost will be capped. As long as you call only the countries listed in your call plan, you’ll pay exactly the same subscription, each and every month, for unlimited, anytime calls. No unpleasant bills!

So, if you’re looking to make cheap international calls, it’s simply a matter of working out which suits you best. Then free or cheap calls are yours to enjoy.
